Installation and machine setup

Installation modes

  • carnelian init runs the interactive hardware-aware setup
  • carnelian init --non-interactive accepts defaults for CI and headless hosts
  • carnelian init --resume continues interrupted setup
  • Manual installation leaves database, environment, and service preparation under operator control

Dedicated Linux, macOS, and Windows guides cover platform package managers, PostgreSQL and pgvector, Ollama, build tooling, and shell-specific environment setup.

Machine profile

The setup wizard detects available hardware and produces machine-scoped configuration. Review generated service, GPU, model, and workspace choices before starting long-running work.

Verify the installation

Confirm the daemon, HTTP control plane, data service, selected model provider, and required workers independently before debugging an agent workflow.
